How to install an in-tank fuel module

MS Motorservice runs through how to install an in-tank fuel module in Mercedes Benz CLS-Class and E-Class vehicles.

Where are the fuel delivery modules in the Mercedes CLS-Class and E-Class vehicles? Where is the fuel tank sender unit located and how do you replace it? Why does the return line only have one connection point? Can the fuel tank sender unit and the pump module be replaced individually or do they have to be installed together? MS Motorservice explains all.

1. Replacing for the first time

The pressure line is connected directly to the fuel pump by a 90° quick connector. Both return lines are clipped into the fuel delivery module. The plug of the electrical line leading to the fuel tank sender unit is located behind the two return lines.

2. Replacing only the fuel delivery module

Connect the quick connector to the straight piece of tubing on the fuel pump then clip both return lines into the pump module. Insert the plug of the electrical line that leads to the fuel tank sender unit into the pump module.

3. Replacing only the fuel tank sender unit

Insert the electrical plug of the fuel tank sender unit into the socket below the return line. Attach the pressure line with the 90° quick connector directly to the fuel pump. Then clip the return line with the straight quick connector into one of the two available brackets on the pump module.

4. Replacing both fuel delivery module and fuel tank sender unit
