One to watch in 2015: AutoMate

With a dedication to delivering technical training to technicians via video tutorials, AutoMate arrives on UK shores having been received with great acclaim by our counterparts in Australia and New Zealand.
Delivered by a team of technical training experts, the video training system allows subscribing workshops the chance to create an ongoing structured training program that enables delegates to train at a time and place that suits them.

Furthermore, if the workshop requires ‘on-demand’ training – in the circumstance that a technician is confronted with a particular technical issue – then AutoMate can offer a solution. Delivering up to three new training videos per week, covering a range of technical subjects, each video comprises an optional ‘knowledge check’ so trainees can measure what they’ve learnt.

The mechanic can log on from any internet enabled device – computer, tablet, scan tool, iPad®, Smartphone, etc. – and sit through a short, professional, well-researched and informative presentation on their chosen topic.

General Manager, Jonathan Sampson, who has guided the development of the learning system, believes that video training can overcome the common obstacles associated with some training forms.
He says: “Most training is delivered in large blocks – often at night after a day of work – and this can be too much at once.

“Our learning system focuses on specifics, so that a technician can watch a training video in around 10 minutes. We have structured our training into channels, much like cable TV, so you can tune into a channel on wiring diagrams, diagnostics or technical fundamentals.

“We even have an equipment channel so that delegates can learn how to use their garage equipment properly; you’d be surprised at how many still don’t know how to do this.”

Available in the UK
Well known UK diagnostic supplier, Maverick Technology, has acquired UK distribution rights for AutoMate and showcased the program at MECHANEX Sandown Park Show towards the end of last year.
Now it is widely available in the UK, Jonathan believes the training concept will prove popular with business owners and mechanics that want to keep up-to-date on current innovations and leading-edge concepts.

He says: “We feel we’ve come up with a way of minimising some of the downtime associated with traditional training methods. At the same time it’s absolutely up-to-the-minute and unbelievably affordable for workshops.”
