Some people crack open a bottle of bubbly on their fiftieth birthday – the team at Laser Tools decided instead to launch a new apprentice scheme.
Anyone who has been to the Laser Tools premises in Warwickshire will tell you what an impressive array of tools they have on display. Its portfolio is so impressive that it can be hard to know where to begin. It’s the kind of pedigree you can only build up over time and with a dedicated team. That dedication was on full display recently, when the press were welcomed onsite to sit in (off camera, of course) on the filming of their 50th anniversary episode of their ongoing YouTube series, Laser Live. Essentially QVC but for torque wrenches, the show brings viewers closer to the brand and puts a rather charming face on the tool supplier. To celebrate, Laser unveiled 50 new tools, each complete with a 50-year warranty.
Alongside the filming, Laser also launched its Future 50 initiative. This is designed to support aspiring young mechanics in their first steps into the automotive aftermarket. Future 50 will offer garages the opportunity to nominate their apprentices – the qualifying criteria being those already enrolled in training and actively working within a garage – to be part of the new initiative.
The chosen Future 50 will each receive a Laser Tools Apprentice Tool Kit, complete with various high-quality products, to support their development as young mechanics beginning their career journey in the industry.
They will also have the chance to win one of three pairs of VIP racing tickets to a British Touring Car Championship race at Brands Hatch 11th October, with advice, training and accreditation opportunities also to be announced as part of the Laser Future 50 scheme.

Eddie Altham, Laser Tools managing director, said: “We are very proud to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of Laser Tools. It’s a magnificent milestone to achieve and gives us an opportunity to reflect on how far the company has come since Martin Smith founded the business.
“While it’s a time to reflect, it’s also an opportunity to focus on the years ahead and the Future 50 is designed to do that by supporting the next generation of mechanics and technicians. With the wider automotive aftermarket facing a skills gap, it’s a good time to launch the Future 50 as it provides practical support to young people beginning their career journey in the industry.
“We have also launched the 50 new tools range, each with a 50-year warranty. As always, the new products showcase both our commitment to technology and innovation, and support mechanics and technicians with the right tools for their workshop requirements.”
Laser Tools started as a business in 1976, when its founder, the late Martin Smith, began selling automotive tools from a market stall in Leamington. From those humble origins, it has grown to become one of the most respected brands in the automotive sector.
