NGK Ambassador Nic Hamilton has revealed he is in an optimistic mood as the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) heads to Oulton Park this weekend.
Nic, the brother of seven-time World F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, recently achieved his best ever BTCC performance when he took sixth place at Donington Park and is looking forward to the forthcoming meeting in Cheshire on June 17 &18.
He said: “Donington Park was the most successful race I have had in the BTCC and finishing sixth was a dream come true. The championship is designed to set different challenges at different circuits and the next meeting should suit us as we have struggled with our engines this season but Oulton Park doesn’t demand as much power.”
Nic, who lives with cerebral palsy, drives Team HARD. Racing’s Cupra Leon and has been supported by Niterra UK Ltd’s NGK ignition brand for the past five seasons, a relationship he really appreciates.
He said: “NGK is a major brand and I am so happy to have it behind me. I think the longevity of our relationship has been good for both of us. My profile is growing and getting stronger and I am very happy to be associated with the company. I look outside of the box and try to get involved in matters that do not just relate to motorsport and I do a lot of public speeches outside of the motorsport arena and try to connect people.”
Nic always had an ambition to compete in the BTCC, he said: “It was always my aim to drive in the touring car championship but since taking part my goals have changed over the years, you always want more. I feel privileged to be involved in the sport but always want to challenge myself to do better.”
Nic recently attended the Automechanika UK Show at Birmingham’s NEC as a guest of NGK brand owner Niterra UK Ltd where he met customers and enjoyed competing on the company’s race simulator before heading off to the Isle of Mann TT race with Monster Energy where he was hopeful of meeting up with fellow NGK Ambassador and TT legend John McGuinness.
He continued: “It is great to take part in sponsors’ events and to travel to different places and meet people from different backgrounds.”
Mark Hallam, Marketing Manager, for NGK brand owner Niterra UK Ltd, added: “Nic is an inspirational character and is a great role model. His determination to overcome adversity and succeed in his chosen sport has earned him many fans and we wish him every success over the rest of the BTCC season.”
