IAAF confirms Garry Richardson at conference and awards

The IAAF has confirmed that one of the BBC’s longest-serving sports broadcasters, Garry Richardson, will be the guest host and compere at its Annual Awards Dinner & Conference on 4 December.

The event, the largest of its type in the automotive aftermarket, will be held at the ICC in Birmingham. Guests will take part in the IAAF Annual Conference during the day to discuss all of the hot topics affecting the industry, before reconvening in the evening for the IAAF Awards & Dinner.

Richardson, who has been an integral part of the BBC’s sports coverage for the last 40 years and works on Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme, as well as Radio 5 Live’s ‘Sportsweek’ show, will host both the conference and awards dinner.

Wendy Williamson, IAAF Chief Executive, said: “I’m delighted that we are working with Garry at the IAAF conference and awards. He has been at the forefront of the British sports media for many years and his voice is instantly recognizable and one of the countries funniest after dinner speakers.

“Having reported on an incredible seven Olympic Games for the BBC and interviewed sporting superstars from all types of disciplines during his career, he is sure to have lots of original anecdotes and memories that will ensure our guests have an enjoyable day and evening.”

One of Richardson’s tasks in the evening will be to present the IAAF awards and facilitate the IAAF Silent Auction where guests will have the chance to bid for a variety of gifts, holidays and event experiences, while raising money for charity at the same time.

Demand for tickets to this IAAF event has been strong. Members and their guests are therefore being urged to book now to avoid disappointment. Tickets can be secured by telephoning the IAAF on 0121 748 4600.
