As every good mechanic knows, in order to get a job done you will often find yourself working in some incredibly cramped and light restricted areas. In these inevitable situations you will need a light that will provide both power and portability, with a blend of useful features designed to make your job a lot easier.
Unilite International has launched a new USB rechargeable inspection light, the PS-IL6R. It has an impressive 600 Lumen output, compared to the 250 Lumen output of its predecessor, the PS-IL1. This is of great benefit when being used as a portable flood lighting tool, providing fantastic beam placement for those notoriously darker areas. It also has a much greater run time at four-and-a-half hours, compared to the previous models 2 hours. This is thanks to its new 3.7v 4400 mAh Li-ion battery.
These first two features cater to some of the main needs of a mechanic, power and longevity. The ability to cover a wide light spread and to keep this high powered beam running for a long time. This longevity is also extended to its construction, its ultra-strength polycarbonate housing providing a toughness and robustness that you would come to expect from a quality industrial brand such as Unilite.
When assessing the PS-IL6R further, you can certainly see it is feature heavy and many of these features help with its standing and placement. It has a multi-positional, adjustable and foldable kick stand that can be used in an upright or laid down position for those jobs that require you to work on the floor, on your knees and in all manner of the other tight nooks and crannies. This kickstand can also be usefully employed to hang onto bonnet hooks and bars for elevated hands-free operation, a feature that all mechanics appreciate to enable their hands to crack on with the job at hand!
As a mechanic you will often find yourself surrounded by all things metal. Why not utilise this to your full advantage and employ the PS-IL6R’s fully rotational magnetic hanging hook! Its magnets strong power means it will stay fully affixed to any metallic surface, leaving you to carry on with your job without the worry of standing it up! As mentioned this magnet is also a hook, which means it can be hung up in any convenient position, either for working operation or purely for storage!
With its slim and sleek design, it can easily fit into a pocket and at only 260g in weight, it certainly won’t be weighing you down! This weight will also be of benefit when you’re holding the unit via the ergonomic grooves, providing a comfortable grip for portable illumination. To add to this utility, the PS-IL6R comes with something that other inspection lights in its class ignore, an additional 100 lumen torch in its head. This provides a useful narrow spot light for precision beam placement, which can certainly be of use in a variety of narrow aperture illumination requiring scenarios.
Now if you’re wondering what the R relates to in the PS-IL6R, it stands for rechargeable. For some people this would bring up preconceptions of older, more awkward rechargeable lights, which would come with the problem of finding a mains charging point to recharge it from. This however is not the case for the PS-IL6R. Its DC-USB cable can be charged in a variety of useful ways, firstly via any USB point, secondly via the 12v vehicle adaptor and thirdly via a traditional mains electrical point, all accessories of which are included in the box! For added strength of this charging point, it features a connected rubberised protective cover which can easily be accessed at the back of the unit.
Overall the PS-IL6R provides a multi-functional illumination solution that will light up the day of any safe, professional and prepared mechanic.
