Spark plug manufacturer NGK is partnering legendary Italian race team Scuderia Ferrari for the 2016 season, continuing a 21-year relationship.
The ignition and sensor specialist has sparked more than 300 victories and – taking the drivers’ and constructors’ championships together – has contributed to 32 titles in Formula One.
Many of these successes have been the result of a co-operation which has continued for more than two decades. NGK and Scuderia Ferrari teamed up for the first time in 1996 since when they have won six World championship drivers’ and eight constructors’ championships.
After two races, the 2016 season sees Scuderia Ferrari in second place in the constructors’ championship with former World champion drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel in fifth and sixth place respectively.
The companies’ relationship is one that is extremely valued by NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd.
Marketing Manager Mark Hallam said: “Formula One is at the pinnacle of motorsport and Ferrari is the biggest name in the sport.
“We have enjoyed a long and successful partnership with the Scuderia Ferrari team for more than 20 years and many of our customers are massive F1 fans.
“The start of the season has been very encouraging for the team and we look forward to following the team and their incredible drivers’ exploits over the 2016 season.”
NGK is the exclusive supplier of spark plugs for the SF16-H, which prominently displays the NGK logo, and the existing contract has been extended until 2020. The team from Maranello will therefore fully rely on high-tech spark plugs from NGK again in the seasons to come up until the end of the decade.
Thanks to its expert technical expertise, NGK is able to tailor-make spark plugs to meet the high demands of the racing cars which bear the trademark of ultimate performance and technical sophistication, the ‘Cavallino Rampante’.
Mark Hallam added: “We are proud of the many years of co-operation and so many successes achieved during this time.
“We have been working closely with the technicians from Maranello again to jointly develop a spark plug which guarantees the highest performance and reliability in the world’s most challenging competition.”
