Auto Windscreens has reported a 145% increase in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) calibrations since 2019.
ADAS cameras and sensors are usually attached to vehicle windscreens, and during a replacement, cameras and sensors need to be removed. On reconnection, new glass placement may differ fractionally, so calibration is needed to restore all systems back to manufacturers’ specification.
The company has completed the highest rate of ADAS calibrations ever, with 14% of replacements requiring calibration, double the rate seen in early 2019, which was around 6%. 94% of applicable ADAS jobs have been handled in-house, compared to 62% when it started undertaking the work in 2019. Auto Windscreens’ total completed calibrations has increased by 145% over two years.
Tony Green, Head of Technical and Training at Auto Windscreens, said: “All our 65 service centres around the UK boast the latest equipment from Hella Gutmann for static calibrations and our mobile technicians are equipped with up-to-the-minute technology to undertake dynamic calibrations on the road. We’ve always been proud that our technicians are among the best trained in the world, undertaking specific courses and ADAS NVQ qualifications to ensure they’re aware of new innovations and developments.
“With the new European ruling which will require all new vehicles to include a number of ADAS features as standard from next year, and with the global ADAS market size expected to reach 118bn by 2027, the increase in demand is on an upward trajectory.”
