TOYOTA AURIS –WHISTLING NOISE
FAULT:
We’re having trouble finding the cause of a whistling noise from the front of a customer’s 2012 Toyota Auris whilst driving at 60 mph (100 kph). The noise is loudest when the vehicle is at operating temperature. We’ve visually checked several front end components and are unable to source the noise. Can you help?
FIX:
This problem is due to the front brake pads resonating in the front brake calipers, causing a whistling noise at constant speeds between 45-75 mph (70-120 kph). To resolve this issue, remove and inspect the front brake pads for a central slot (see Fig 1). If a central slot isn’t present, you’ll need to fit modified front brake pads. Follow this up by carrying out a road test to confirm the noise is no longer present.
