VOLKSWAGEN TOURAN – FUEL FILLER FLAP WILL NOT STAY CLOSED
FAULT:
A 2008 Volkswagen Touran has a problem where the fuel filler flap will not stay closed after refuelling. The fuel filler flap actuator seems to be OK as it is clicking when the central locking is operated. Have you heard of this problem before?
FIX:
Yes, the fault is due to the fuel filler flap actuator rod stuck in the filler flap actuator rod guide sleeve due to misalignment. Remove the RH load area side trim. Check fuel filler flap actuator rod guide sleeve for misalignment (see Fig 2.1). Loosen the fuel filler flap actuator mounting bolts. Realign the fuel filler flap actuator with the fuel filler flap actuator rod guide sleeve (see Fig 2.2). Tighten the fuel filler flap actuator mounting bolts. Refit the RH load area side trim. Test the operation of the fuel filler flap to ensure it operates correctly.
