Meyle has revealed in a recent study some workshops are already preparing for the shift in the independent aftermarket business towards e-mobility.
Within the next 10 years, about 40% plan to generate the majority of their revenue from electric cars, whereas one in five independent workshops will continue to rely solely on combustion engines.
As the industry undergoes significant change, the study provides an important overview of the perspective of workshop staff and owners as IAM core stakeholders.
Further key findings showed:
- High-voltage training needed: 40% of respondents already have electric cars in their garage at least once or several times a week. However, eight out of 10 workshops lacked the necessary qualifications to handle high-voltage systems while under power
- Parts manufacturers as top partners: 64% cited parts manufacturers as most important partners of independent workshops, followed by software and diagnostic tool providers (58%) and wholesalers (52%)
- Most relevant future business activities: Repair & maintenance of driver assistance systems (83%) environmentally friendly battery disposal & recycling (77%), optimization of software to increase workshop performance (75%).
The study has been conducted by MEYLE and market research company INNOFACT AG among German-speaking independent workshops.
