On Yer Trike!

On Yer Trike!

Automotive recruitment experts, Holt Recruitment, has donated an Adaptive Tricycle to Victoria Education Centre, in Dorset.

The donation is part of Holt Recruitment’s ongoing campaign to support Victoria Education Centre (VEC), a day and residential Special School in Poole, Dorset, which is run by the national charity Livability. Holt Recruitment has donated a special tricycle, made by acclaimed American company, Rifton. The tricycle has been specially designed for children who have significant mobility issues. With special features such as a supportive back rest, a low transfer step, choice of handlebars, and puncture-proof wheels, the Rifton Adaptive Trike can be adjusted to suit individual requirements.

Children love cycling: to ride a bike is one of childhood’s first experiences of independence. Suddenly, whether on two wheels or three, you are cycling alone, hanging on to the handlebars, peddling away, maybe a bit wobbly at first, but determined to ride away. We all remember the exhilaration of that first moment when you are no longer being pushed or pulled along, you are finally, on your own, riding unaided! VEC and Holt Recruitment believe all children, including those with disabilities, should have an equal chance of having this magical experience. In fact for children with mobility issues, the Adaptive Trike is not only a fun, leisure activity which they can share with their able-bodied friends, it also has great medical and health benefits. It helps strengthen lower body and legs; improve spatial awareness and co-ordination; and can boost confidence and self-esteem.

Director of Holt Recruitment, Stuart Holt, said:

“We are extremely pleased to have donated this wonderful trike to VEC. WE hope the children will really enjoy riding it. This is just one of a number of pieces of equipment we will be donating to Victoria Education Centre as we aim to support the centre by providing various items to help their students on a regular basis.”

Victoria Education Centre is part of Livability – a disability and community charity that delivers services around the UK. It offers specialised, high-quality education, therapy and care for young people aged 3-19. The school aims to be a centre where successful learning and high levels of achievement prepare children and young adults for fulfilling future lives.

Simon Brown, Headteacher at VEC, commented:

“We really value and appreciate the support we are receiving from Holt Recruitment. VEC is proud of its fantastic facilities. However, it is through the generosity of people such as Stuart and his company that we continue to ensure we have the most up-to-date and suitable facilities to aid our students to achieve their maximum potential.”
