The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) has announced Eyebox in Coventry as the final of three state-of-the-art venues booked for this year’s IMI SkillAuto competition heats. Young apprentices are set to compete in the fields of Autobody, Autorefinish and Autotech for a place in the contest’s final which takes place at the Skills Show in November.
The brand new Eyebox training and conferencing facility will host the Autobody heats, joining the Jaguar Land Rover Academy in Leamington and 3M’s training centre in Atherstone – who will once again host the Autotech and Autorefinish competitions respectively. Each of the venues has been chosen to raise the profile of SkillAuto and reflect the level of quality and expertise required for candidates to succeed in the UK-wide competition.
David Massie, the IMI’s Skills Competition Manager, comments: “The facilities at Eyebox are superb and fit perfectly with the standards of excellence that SkillAuto aims to deliver. Eyebox have been very enthusiastic about hosting the Automotive Body Repair heats and we are looking forward to an exciting event in June.”
The IMI has also announced that Direct Automotive will be providing body panels for the heats at Eyebox, joining returning SkillAuto sponsors IMI Awards, Würth UK and Morelli Group.
Registration for SkillAuto competitors is open until 21st March with heats taking place in May and June to identify the finalists, who will compete at The Skills Show in Birmingham’s NEC this November.
