Garages urged to make ADAS investment in 2025

Hella Gutmann has urged businesses to put a plan in place to deal with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in 2025, including seeking out training for staff and to invest in the equipment needed to deal with the technology.

Figures from the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) showed 20% of vehicles on UK roads will be equipped with ADAS technology in 2025. Julian Goulding, Head of Sales at Hella Gutmann, said: “These vehicles will be on the ramp in independent workshops, and technicians will need the skills and equipment to work on them. This makes upskilling and training, as well as investment in key equipment essential as we enter the second half of the decade.”

With one fifth of all cars on UK roads using ADAS systems, garages face a choice. Julian explained: “In 2025, ADAS will be increasingly difficult to ignore for independent garages. The time has come to address how to deal with ADAS-equipped vehicles, in the same way workshops have been considering other challenges such as electric and hybrid vehicles, while also navigating the thorny issue of vehicle access.”

HELLA has been working to make sure support is in place. Julian expressed: “Last year we opened a new training facility; HELLA Academy. With IMI centre approval, the initial focus has been on ADAS training, through which workshops can take on the ADAS challenge with confidence.

“On the equipment side, Hella Gutmann offers an ADAS solution to meet all workshop needs, from the CSC-Tool SE to the CSC-Tool Digital and CSC-Tool Mobile. Support for workshops from Hella Gutmann will continue to widen in 2025, with the upcoming release of the new CSC-Tool X 20. The new device will streamline ADAS jobs for technicians and enable fast and efficient calibrations.”

Another key issue for garages is access, with Julian concluding: “With dealer tools often the only way to gain entry to crucial systems, independents must make sure they are not locked out. Remote diagnostics will become increasingly crucial in 2025 and beyond as a result. Hella Gutmann has a popular solution here too. Through Hella Gutmann’s macsRemote device, garages gain access to our team of remote experts, who can help them complete jobs requiring dealer tools.

“Technology and the need for training will continue to be key concerns for garages in 2025, but with the support of HELLA and Hella Gutmann, workshops will be able to face up to the challenge and make the most of the opportunity.”
