On the back of having recently posted positive performance figures for its financial year 2014/15, Banner Batteries has secured a major new OE contract in Europe with the Volkswagen Group.
Serving to further strengthen Banner’s position as a major supplier of starter batteries with an increasing number of respected vehicle manufacturers, not to mention its already established relationship with the Volkswagen Group, the new four year contract will see Banner supply its enhanced flooded batteries (EFB) for stop/start applications.
With the scope to deliver some 150,000 units in the first twelve months – a figure that is expected to increase significantly in subsequent years – at a value of €6.5 million, Banner will supply its 69 Ah power level EFB technology battery for Blue Motion start-stop vehicles to Volkswagen plants in Wolfsburg (Germany), Pamplona (Spain) and Palmela (Portugal), as well as the Audi plant in Györ (Hungary) and Seat in Martorell (Spain).
Used mainly in today’s mid-range and small cars that operate simple Start/Stop systems, but without any energy recuperation requirement, Banner’s EFB batteries – available with 60-70Ah capacities – are proven in terms of their performance characteristics. In addition to offering high levels of vibration resistance and twice the cycle life of a conventional battery, EFBs features a double-lid design to safeguard against leaks, whilst also delivering maximum operational safety. Furthermore, the use of modern mesh calcium technology makes the battery maintenance free.
Given that battery technologies deployed in Start/Stop vehicles cannot be interchanged, Banner is actively promoting its recently introduced web-based VRM (Number plate) battery application guide, available at: www.bannerbatteryfinder.co.uk.
Commenting on this latest development, Country Manager for the UK, Lee Quinney said: “In addition to focusing on Banner’s standing as a complete solutions provider, it is our intention here in the UK to promote the company’s growing OE pedigree when it comes to AGM and EFB battery technologies, and this most recent announcement from such a prominent vehicle manufacturer can only help us drive this.”
