Autodata fighting back against software piracy

Autodata is expanding its efforts against software piracy by offering its senior staff as speakers at seminars and conferences tackling the issue of fraud.

The Maidenhead-based technical information provider was at the Trading Standards Conference in Brighton during the summer and, last month, presented to South Yorkshire Trading Standards members on the dangers posed by the use of counterfeit technical information.

With the support of the relevant authorities, Autodata has campaigned to raise awareness of the issue among independent garages and technicians. The company is also surveying the identification and conviction of many bogus data vendors every year.

Last month, a presentation was held at Tankersley Manor Hotel, Barnsley, where key personnel addressed local business representatives, existing Autodata customers, main dealers, Trading Standards officials and the Civic Mayor of Doncaster.

Rod Williams, Autodata CEO, said it was pleasing to have the company’s efforts recognised and that it is still striving for results.

“We were very pleased to be invited to this event to present our findings and results have been achieved when tackling the issue of counterfeit software. It is promising to have our efforts officially recognised by Trading Standards and the law enforcement agencies,” said Williams.

“It was especially pleasing to see that a high number of attendees at our recent presentation were Autodata subscribers. This gives us a chance to ensure that they see first-hand the efforts that we are putting into the fight against the sellers and users of counterfeit garage software and how we are supporting our users running legitimate garage businesses.”
