Query

In this recent example, the ALLDATA repair info centre service team tackled a problem on a 2015 Porsche 981 Cayman S. The owner of the car was experiencing a “strange noise” emanating from the engine compartment whilst driving – they described it as a “high-frequency, pulsating” noise. After various checks and road tests were carried out, there was no obvious reason for it or where it was being generated from.

Solution

The ALLDATA team had encountered this issue before. The cause of the noise is from the vehicle’s oil separator. If there is an excessive spring force tolerance from within the oil separator, it can cause that “highfrequency, pulsating” noise. The solution is to first check the part number of the separator on the vehicle; if this is ‘9A1.107.042.01’, the part will need to be replaced with a later, modified one. Once fitted, the issue should be solved.
