Shaftec has announced its latest range extension of 190 references covering approximately 360 vehicle applications.
With ever growing car parc coverage, this news supports Shaftec’s position as a leading supplier of high quality braking steering and transmission components and highlights its growing presence across the European aftermarket.
In detail, the range extension comprises: 36 calipers (of which six are remanufactured Electric Parking Brake (EPB) calipers with new motors); 114 driveshafts; 22 steering racks; 13 steering pumps; two constant velocity (CV) joints and three boot kits.
Of particular note are: EPB caliper for the popular VW Passat and driveshaft for the Ford Fiesta.
Sales and marketing director, Tom Curtis, commented: “We pride ourselves on getting new parts to market, quickly; and at a fair and competitive price. This way, the garages can confidently and quickly do their job and pass on any savings to encourage return custom.”
The business continues to steadily gain market share across its key European markets. Central to this is the company’s ability to marry quality with value for money. For example, Shaftec’s EPB caliper offer which combines the best of both worlds – remanufactured core and new motor.
Electric Parking Brakes hold passenger vehicles stationary on grades and flat roads; a function which was traditionally carried out using a manual parking brake. A button pressed by the driver activates the holding mechanism and the brake pads are then electrically applied onto the rear brakes.
There are two EPB systems currently used in vehicle production: the cable puller and the caliper integrated systems. In caliper integrated systems, the brake caliper provides a connection between hydraulic actuation of the foot brake and electrically actuated parking brake. The motor or transmission unit (actuator), which operates the parking brake, is screw-fixed directly to the brake caliper housing.
“It makes economic sense to remanufacture the caliper core, and then for a safer drive, to add a new motor,” explained Tom.
“Remanufacturing is not just a poorer substitute for new. It’s a process which results in components that are as good as new, tested as new and perform in that way for the lifetime of the part. Each Shaftec branded brake caliper is stripped right back to the original casting and inspected to ensure that there are no defects. All are then refurbished and reassembled by hand using brand new components.”
