Since then, the cameras have grown in popularity, largely due to the ability to use recorded footage for insurance purposes in the unfortunate event of a road traffic collision. There are some consumers, however, that fit their driving recorder to record precious memories on special journeys.

Yiqiao Wang, EMEA Product Manager for mobility products, said: “Automotive driving recorders are becoming increasingly popular, and it is easy to understand why. Once they are set up, a good driving recorder will do everything it needs to automatically, and they offer some real benefits to the motorist.

“As well as providing potentially vital evidence in an accident or even crime scenarios, many insurance companies across Europe are offering motorists a discount on their car insurance policy, if their cars are fitted with the correct driving recorder. This means a driving recorder can easily recoup most or even all of its purchase cost.”

Both cameras produce crystal-clear footage – particularly sharp during night time – thanks to full HD 1080p resolution. Drivers can relax and fully concentrate on the road ahead, as both record automatically without a button being pushed.

They also detect abrupt braking and potential collisions, with all incidents automatically saved into an emergency file, with a time and date stamp. This ensures vital evidence is preserved.

If drivers wish, an easy capture button is available to push, which allows simple emergency recording, proof of any traffic situation and storing of notable video that may occur during the driver’s journey.

Specifically, the ADR810 boasts a patented-design button, which is placed on the vehicle’s cigarette lighter; therefore, it’s very accessible.

The units comprise of a seamless recording pattern of 30 frames per second, so there is a fluidity of images captured – whatever the speed. Playback is also available through a built-in playback software for real-time viewing on the spot.

Impressively, both the ADR610 and ADR810 feature a fatigue index, which alerts the driver both visually and orally when they need a rest.

The entry level ADR610 is an excellent value-for-money choice, thanks to its compact and discrete build. With a lens size of 100°, its 2” screen can capture an excellent view of the road ahead in case of any hazards.

The ADR810, meanwhile, boasts a 156° lens and wide format 2.7” LCD screen. The high-quality of the lens, sensor and CPU – all thanks to comprehensive testing – means this premium product offers the best night view quality available.
