Thinkcar UK has revealed ECU reflashing on Honda vehicles can now be performed using its diagnostic tools, with aftermarket coverage for the Japanese marque now exclusively available through the brand.
Users of the Thinkcar Euro Master X, Euro Master X2, Euro Master X10S and the Thinktool Euro MAX, along with the AI-powered Thinkcar Euro 399 tool can now undertake ECU reflashing on Honda vehicles.
Thinkcar UK customer Huw Elis from B&K Williams in Caernarfon recently used the X10S to overcome a common manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor issue found on the 2014 Honda CR-V 1.6 diesel.
He said: “I contacted Thinkcar UK to ask if someone could help me program the Honda ECU. They replied, pointing out that Honda software updates are now being provided through their tools.”
The problem, also found on a number of Honda Civic variants, results from naturally occurring moisture building up in the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. This corrodes the temperature gauge in the sensor, affecting its current, voltage and resistance capabilities. Eventually this will trigger the MIL warning light, potentially forcing the car into limp mode. The issue, which was identified by Honda in 2014, can be solved by replacing the part with an updated moisture-proof sensor. However, as part of the process the vehicle’s software must be refreshed.
Beyond Honda, the range offers online programming for multiple brands including VAG, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Jaguar/Land Rover, Nissan and Hyundai, along with online functionality for Ford and other brands.
Alex Gillbanks, Managing Director at Thinkcar UK, said: “Updating the software in the ECU has long been a vital part of many repairs, but the process required access to the dealer tool. Now, techs can complete Honda reflashing themselves via many of our top-selling tools.”
“When it comes to ECU reprogramming, the Thinkcar range leads the way, offering more native online reflash capabilities than any other tool on the market.”
