Big-hearted swimmers have gone to great lengths to raise money for charity in memory of two former Schaeffler (UK) Ltd employees.
A six-strong team completed 400 lengths to raise funds in memory of former Automotive Aftermarket Division Sales Manager Alan Dean and warehouse worker Mike Powell, who both tragically lost their battle against cancer.
The swim was organised by Hereford-based Automotive Aftermarket Division Operations Director Warren Barnett and was held at the town’s pool.
He said: “I am a keen swimmer myself and try to go two or three times a week and thought it would be a good idea to put together a team to take part in the Sport Relief Swimathon and to raise money for some fantastic charities in memory of Alan and Mike.”
The swimmers comprised Warren, his daughter Harriet (12), nephew Matthew Smart (22), Customer Services Manager Joanne Loughman, her son Dec, and Olivia Drynda, daughter of Customer Support employee Amanda Drynda.
He added: “Everyone did incredibly well during the swim. Harriet, Dec and Olivia all achieved personal bests in terms of the distance they swam, which was a great effort. Overall we completed 10 kilometres and have raised hundreds of pounds from donations by staff, customers and friends.”
