LKQ Euro Car Parts has reported record battery sales as the winter storm reportedly drives a surge in failures.
Automotive repairers across the UK reportedly saw a sharp rise in battery-related breakdowns, as winter storm conditions placed extra strain on vehicles already under pressure from freezing temperatures.
LKQ Euro Car Parts has said sales of replacement batteries reached record levels as repairers moved quickly to get stranded motorists safely back on the road, with more than 50,000 batteries sold and delivered between a Monday and a Thursday.
Cold weather is said to be a leading cause of battery failure, with low temperatures reducing battery performance while increased use of heaters, lights and demisters places additional load on ageing units. As a result, thousands of drivers found themselves stranded with flat batteries, and repairers faced a deluge of callouts throughout the week.
LKQ Euro Car Parts responded by mobilising its nationwide distribution network to keep pace with demand. The branch network and express delivery service kept customers stocked, from independent garages to major breakdown services including RAC and the AA, both of which the business serves as a key strategic partner.
Matt Robinson, B2B Trade Director at LKQ Euro Car Parts, said: “When extreme weather hits, automotive repairers are the frontline keeping communities moving. Last week we saw demand surge – our job was to make sure no technician was waiting on stock. If a battery failed, we made sure the replacement was there fast.”
