Porsche Carrera Cup UK challenger, Tom Oliphant, is the new face of automotive lighting solutions from Philips in his chase for championship honours this season.
The deal sees one of the global market leading vehicle lighting brands supporting the car as both sponsor and supplier for the remainder of 2016.
The Philips brand is present on the car and the Porsche racer used to promote Philips product ranges to both trade and consumer as the traditional “Lighting Season” approaches.
Tom, who is the current British Ginetta Supercup Champion, has been extremely impressive in his first season in Porsches and this brought him to the attention of Lumileds’ Richard Armstrong. “We were recommended to look at Tom as someone a bit special and I was excited by his potential both as a driver and as someone who could work well with the Philips brand, in many different ways.
“Tom is extremely bright – with two degrees in automotive-related subjects to his name. He understands our industry both technically and commercially and is obviously a clever and gifted driver with, we believe, a very successful future ahead of him in sports car racing.
The Carrera Cup UK, runs as part of the Britain’s most popular car racing series programme, the BTCC, which attracts huge audiences.
Philips bulbs are already OE equipment with Porsche but the team will also be using Philips Automotive products off-track – with Philips’ workshop lighting products already proving popular with the team race engineers and there are plans to use Philips new range of Dash-cams as part of the testing process.
“I am delighted to be working with Philips automotive solutions and to be carrying their branding on the car for the remainder of the 2016 season. Obviously to be able to bring such a household brand name into Carrera Cup GB is great for both me and for the championship,” enthused Tom.
