Increased vehicle technology sees Stoplock sales rise

Developments in vehicle technology and a rise in vehicle crimes figures mean that vehicle owners need to pay extra attention to vehicle security; that’s according to leading automotive brand distributor Saxon Brands.

Figures released by the leading independent crime data platform UKCrimeStats, identify that, whilst overall UK crime has reduced by more than 3%, vehicle crimes have increased by 1.46%.

This demonstrates that vigilance and vehicle security is ever more crucial and consequently many vehicle owners are taking the retro approach to keeping their car protected.

Considered by some as old-fashioned and out-of-date, the traditional Stoplock is making a comeback; indeed Stoplock reports that UK sales have increased by 27% in the last year and a hugely impressive 72% over the past two years.

Clearly, drivers are taking practical steps to prevent their cars from being stolen.

With thieves bypassing cars’ sophisticated electronic security systems, Police say that a visual deterrent such as Stoplock, is the best way to stop this new wave of hi-tech criminals.

They can clone your car key in just seconds, bypassing the electronic systems that many modern cars possess.

So, put simply, locking a bar to your steering wheel is one the best ways to outwit today’s sophisticated crook.

Kieron Sheridan from UK Stoplock Distributor, Saxon Brands said “The trusty Stoplock, which was popular in the late 1980s and early 90s, had been thought redundant in a world of on-board computers and vehicle security systems.

“It’s therefore great to see this relatively simple vehicle security system, regaining its place at the forefront of vehicle security”.

Indeed, over the years Stoplock has continued to receive category three approval by Thatcham Research, which assesses vehicle security systems for car insurers.

Thatcham recommends aftermarket mechanical immobilisers, because they act as both a visual and physical deterrent and may save a car from becoming the wrong kind of statistic.
