IMI eLearning set to revolutionise accident repair education

The IMI’s eLearning system is currently utilised in over 200 colleges in the UK for Light Vehicle training. It provides study aids and multimedia content which support students throughout their course in specific topic areas such as diagnostics, repairs and technology.

The system also includes functional skills (Maths, English, ICT), core skills (health and safety, communication etc.).  However, this is the first resource of its type to be made available to students and apprentices studying Accident Repair qualifications.

The new resources will support these students through the majority of their apprenticeship. The technical learning materials will cover accident repair topics such as chassis alignment, metal work, surface preparation and electrical trim. Paint topics include equipment, preparation and paint application. Additional modules are set to be added over time until all areas of the curriculum are covered from Entry Level 1 to Level 3.

IMI CEO Steve Nash explained: “It is a very challenging economic environment for bodyshops in the UK and the need for skilled individuals who can help maximise profitability is greater than ever. It is therefore vital that the same level and quality of resources is available to accident repair apprentices as other automotive disciplines.

“Training providers have been crying out for these kinds of resources for some time, so we are happy we now have the expertise in our eLearning team to provide this.”

Training providers who wish to incorporate the eLearning resources into their teaching plans are encouraged to attend one of the road shows. Alternatively, visit www.theimi.org.uk/elearning or contact the eLearning team at elearning@theimi.org.uk for additional information.
