Delphi hosts IMI Skills Competition heats

Delphi Academy has hosted the IMI Skills Competition heats for both heavy vehicle and light vehicle technology at its training facility in Warwick.


The week-long event, showcased top emerging talent from across the UK, with Delphi Academy’s technical trainer, David Guilfoyle, serving as a judge in the light vehicle category.

The IMI Skills Competitions aim to identify and celebrate the very best emerging technicians in the industry. With four key competition streams covering automotive technology, body repair, refinishing, and heavy vehicle technology, the programme plays a crucial role in driving up standards and recognising excellence across the sector.

David Walker, lead judge, said: “The IMI World Skills Competition is like the Olympics of our industry. It brings together the best young talent from across the UK to compete in a series of demanding technical challenges.”

It begins with an online test, followed by regional qualifiers and a national final. At Delphi Academy, participants tackled a series of quick-fire 45-minute workshop tasks across various disciplines including electrics, brakes and high voltage.

Delphi Academy spans 1,430 square metres, with the facility training up to 64 students daily and features a dedicated wing for hybrid, EV, and hydrogen technologies. With 15 training vehicles and OEM-level resources, the site offers a future-ready environment ideal for hosting competitions like the IMI Skills Competition for World Skills UK.
