Over the past 18 months AMK has carried out a full strategic review of its business, identifying processes which have either fallen out of favour with today’s market or are no longer viable. The branch closures will be the final stage in AMK’s drive for efficiencies.
In order to meet the requirements of its customers AMK are to adopt a single site distribution, in line with the vast majority of suppliers to the UK aftermarket.
The branch network will be closed in a phased manner with the final branch closing by the 24th April 2015.
Managing Director at AMK, Alan Griffiths, explains: “The UK automotive aftermarket has seen fierce competition over recent years, affecting prices and margins in the market. A restructuring of our business is necessary to ensure that we can continue to support our customers in the long term, as well as securing the future development of AMK.”
The new distribution strategy will allow stock to be held and managed in one location, providing greater availability across AMK’s product range. This in turn will make it more visible to its customers using electronic ordering platforms.
Alan continues: “In a market where there is significant movement towards electronic ordering we believe moving our stock to a centralised location will increase availability which will ultimately benefit our customers”.
The new distribution strategy will also mean that the majority of customers will benefit from single invoicing for stock as well as before 12 noon carrier delivery service.
AMK will also introduce a new strategy for the collection of old core with regional Customer Returns Coordinators looking after all aspect of returns.
