LKQ Euro Car Parts has urged MOT testers to complete their annual CPD before the end-of-March deadline, warning missing it could leave workshops unable to test vehicles, losing valuable bookings and revenue.
Under the current rules, MOT testers must complete their annual CPD and pass the associated assessment by 31 March each year. Those who fail to do so are suspended from testing and must then carry out the following year’s CPD and complete a demonstration test in front of the DVSA to show their compliance before being reinstated as a tester.
Lee Chapman, Head of Support and LKQ Academy, said: “With only weeks to go until the deadline, many testers still need to complete their annual CPD. Missing it can result in suspension and a lengthy process to regain authorisation – something many workshops simply can’t afford.
“For independent garages in particular, the consequences can be significant. Many have just one authorised tester, and if that person is suspended, the business may be unable to offer MOTs until the issue is resolved. That can mean lost time, lost revenue and customers being forced to go elsewhere.
“The pressure on testers is growing as the system becomes more robust, and that makes it more important than ever to stay up to date. Completing CPD is integral to maintaining standards, improving testing accuracy and, most importantly, ensuring safety.
“Our advice is simple: don’t leave it until the last minute. By getting CPD completed now, testers can avoid unnecessary disruption and head into the new CPD year with confidence.”
LKQ Euro Car Parts collaborates with the IMI and the DVSA on the approved MOT CPD training it offers through the LKQ Academy, with a range of options to suit every tester. Testers are advised to book their training by March 27th to allow enough time to complete it by the 31st of March deadline.
