WD-40 has announced the four finalists who will go head-to-head in the live final of the ‘Be My Mechanic competition’ at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week.
Billy Evans from Middlewich in Cheshire, Carl Bates from Sedgley in the West Midlands, Jack Wright from Duddon in Cheshire and Wayne Brooks from London will battle it out for the chance to win the £500 cash and a place on The Sun/WD-40 rally team.
The competition, for which PMM is the trade media partner, has been running since April with entries being submitted on the WD-40 Facebook page, as well as at Manchester’s MECHANEX trade show.
In fact all four finalists, as well as six of the top 10, entered the competiton on the WD-40 stand at the automotive trade show in May.
During the live final, the four finalists will be asked to perform rally related maintenance and support tasks to display both mechanical ability and technical knowledge.
The winner of the ‘Be My Mechanic’ competition will help to look after the team’s Ford Fiesta R5 WRC2 rally car during the four day Wales Rally GB, in November, when The WD-40 Sun Rally Team, with Rob Gill – The Sun’s motoring editor behind the wheel, lines-up against the might of the works teams of VW, Citroen and Hyundai.
David Whittome, Head of Marketing UK and Benelux at WD-40 Company, said: “We had a great mix of entries to the competition that provided some impressive times in the wheel change challenge and a number of very interesting pictures of mechanics using WD-40 Multi-Use Product. Thank you to everyone that entered and we will look forward to meeting all of our finalists at Goodwood to put them through their paces.
“Wales Rally GB is one of the toughest events in the WRC calendar, testing both driver and machine! We are looking for someone that can work as part of our team to support Rob and our Fiesta R5 across the finish line on the 16th November.
“The support crew is a vital part of the team and an opportunity of a lifetime awaits the winner of this competition. The winner will spend the four days working with our professional motorsport team experiencing everything they do during the event.”
Further updates regarding the competition will be placed on the Original WD-40 UK Facebook site at: www.facebook.com/OriginalWD40.UK during the final and the winner will be announced shortly after the event.
