Front wheel bearing removal – Various models

TASK: Removal/fitting of front wheel bearing (XMGB 40899R01)

MAKES/MODELS: Audi A2; Seat Cordoba, Ibiza; Skoda Fabia, Roomster, VW Fox, Polo

REMOVAL

Removal tools

Step 1: After removing the steering knuckle, position tool 1 on the steering knuckle (pictured below).

Step 2: Prepare removal tools 2, 3, 4 and 5 and insert the removal tool through the hub and steering knuckle (pictured below).

 

Step 3: Position tool 6 (the extracting washer) and check that the outer diameter of the washer is at or below the outer diameter of the hub support on the inside of the steering knuckle. When this is done, fit the nut.

Step 4: Tighten by screwing the nut to extract the hub from the steering knuckle (pictured below).

 

FITTING

Fitting tools and components

Step 1: Remove the protective cover from the bearing (pictured below).

Step 2: Check that the ASB® coded seal is working correctly with an NTN-SNR ASB® tester card (pictured below).

 

Step 3: Position one of the half-moon tools in place (pictured below) and then move on to the second (tools 1 and 2).

 

Step 4: Use the wheel mounting bolts to fix the two half-moons (pictured below).

Step 5: Position tool 3 in the groove provided for this purpose (pictured below). 

 

Step 6: Prepare tool 4 (pictured below).

Step 7: Position the wheel hub on the steering knuckle (pictured below).

Step 8: Insert tool 5 into tool 4 through the hub bearing and steering knuckle (pictured below).

Step 9: Position tool 6 (locking washer) and add tool 7 (nut) (pictured below).

Step 10: Screw to insert the bearing inside the hub until the bearing lock ring is inside the steering knuckle (pictured below).

      

To finish: Remove the tools and the fitting is completed.
