Website ‘scrappage scheme’ launched

Smart phone and tablet shopping is growing at nearly four times the rate of overall online spending in the UK and many garages are missing out on bookings, as their websites are not mobile compliant, according to The Motorist’s Organisation, a leading provider of digital services to garages. It is estimated that 2015 will see the amount of time that UK adults spend online via mobile devices surpass the amount of time spent online, via desktop and laptop computers, according to eMarketer’s estimates of media consumption among UK adults.

To help independent garages optimise their websites for mobile access and increase online bookings, The Motorist’s Organisation has launched a new scrappage scheme, which will provide garages with highly creative and impactful websites, fully mobile compliant and embedded with a unique, online booking widget.

Under the new scheme, garages can have their websites updated, or rebuilt if they are not mobile compatible, and can also have their sites optimised for online service and MOT bookings. Those garages without a website can also benefit from the scheme, as a new site will be designed and built for them. The cost is just £40 per month which is all-inclusive, with no booking or additional fees.

Douglas Rotberg, Chief Executive of The Motorist’s Organisation comments: “Independent garages across the UK are now missing out on valuable bookings from customers as their websites are not mobile compliant; outdated, giving the consumer a bad first impression;  or don’t even have a online presence.

“Our new scrappage scheme will help independent garages maximise the potential of online bookings, via PCs or smartphones and tablets and ultimately, boost their revenue.  We are offering an all-inclusive package, which includes our online booking widget.  This allows customers to enter their VRM and get an instant price, based on the garage’s hourly rate and other data.  This is all accessible by the garage to update in real-time, depending upon workshop availability. Our research shows that garages can secure 30% more bookings from their website if they use the online booking system.

“We are offering garages free setup (worth £250), plus the first month free to those that sign up for the scrappage scheme within the next 6 weeks.  Most importantly for garages, all the work in setting up a new website is included, even a new domain name for that garage (and up to 5 email addresses), or transferring a domain.”

The Motorist’s Organisation is a leading provider of digital services to garages, powering the front and back end of RAC Garage Compare.
